Step into the story of the Little Red Hen and explore the journey from grain to bread. This immersive workshop supports EYFS learning, helping children understand how food is made, how plants grow, and the importance of helping and sharing.
Workshop Activities
- Tour of the Mill – guided tour with the Miller, explanation of how grain is turned into flour, and demonstration of the mill’s machinery
- Baking Activity – hands-on session where children make their own bread using organic flour from the mill, developing fine motor skills
- Grain Tray and Cog Exploration – interactive session exploring grains and simple cog mechanisms, encouraging curiosity and observation
- Growing Activity – learn about the parts of a wheat plant and plant cress seeds to observe growth and understand basic plant care
- Story-based Role Play – recreate the Little Red Hen story using props, promoting social skills, communication, and creativity
This workshop provides a rich, interactive introduction to food production and plant growth while supporting EYFS learning through storytelling, hands-on exploration, and practical activities.

Please note: Half-day sessions (10:00 – 12:30) will always include the mill tour and baking, but may not cover all additional activities. Full-day sessions (10:00 – 14:00) include the full range of experiences.
