Botanical Inks Workshop with Hazel
Botanical Inks
Get ready to explore the magic of nature with this fun and playful workshop. Great for anybody who would like to explore eco-friendly art. We'll be making natural inks from hedgerow, kitchen and garden.
In this workshop, you will learn which plants to forage and how to use a selection of plant samples. We will cook up a variety of autumn plants, from sloe berries, hawthorn berries, elderberries to walnuts and alder cones, depending on what is available in the season. The plants will be used to extract colour for botanical inks. You will also sample ink made by longer processes such as oak gall. Toward the end of the session, you will have time to get creative and experiment with different colours and consistencies, using different substances to alter colours and test a variety of application techniques.
By the end of the workshop, you will have two small bottles of ink and a modifier to take away with you and your own wonderful inky artistic creations.
Artist Bio
I am a multimedia/mixed media artist, photographer and teacher, using recycled and found or foraged objects to create work wherever possible in a sustainable way. My work is grounded in the outdoors, both on my doorstep, my garden and allotment or out walking and exploring. I forage for art, craft and edibles. I grow fruit, vegetables and dye plants. I’m a plant nerd and like to make use of botanicals in as many ways possible: ecoprint, gelli print, heat print, cyanotype and anthotype, botanical inks, natural dyed fabrics and use them in textile pieces and collage. I paint and draw in many different media and styles, I enjoy everything too much to concentrate on just one thing!
