Bundle Dyeing with Hazel
Learn the art of bundle dyeing in this botanical dyeing workshop. In this workshop, you will dye a one-of-a-kind silk scarf using a mix of summer flowers and dried flowers to produce a beautifully coloured scarf. The bundle dyeing process involves wrapping plant materials in cloth and steaming them to print the natural pigments permanently on the fabric. Flowers used are locally sourced and most are home grown in the garden or allotment.
Whilst the steaming is in progress, you will have time for another short activity related to bundle dying.
All materials are be provided though you are welcome to bring any flowers from your garden to add to your bundle.
Meet the Instructor, Hazel Russell:
I am a multimedia/mixed media artist, photographer and teacher, using recycled and found or foraged objects to create work wherever possible in a sustainable way. My work is grounded in the outdoors, both on my doorstep, my garden and allotment or out walking and exploring. I forage for art, craft and edibles. I grow fruit, vegetables and dye plants. I’m a plant nerd and like to make use of botanicals in as many ways possible: ecoprint, gelli print, heat print, cyanotype and anthotype, botanical inks, natural dyed fabrics and use them in textile pieces and collage. I paint and draw in many different media and styles, I enjoy everything too much to concentrate on just one thing!
