National Open Mills Day
Join us on our National Open Mills day to celebrate mills and milling in the UK. Everyone is welcome at this FREE event, filled with things to do, such as expert-led mill tours, baking demonstrations, children's activities and more.
Explore the Watermill at Hatfield for free on this annual event. Learn more about the history of milling in our exhibition '1000 years of milling' exhibition; see our remarkable restored watermill in action and learn how it works from our resident millers; buy some of our stoneground flour to try in your bakes at home. If you are really enthusiastic, join in our baking competition (details below.)
Are you an expert bread-baker, pastry-preparer, or cake-maker? Or have some budding food creatives at home? We are holding two baking competitions (under 18s and 18s and over) to celebrate National Open Mills weekend on Sunday May 12th. To enter, all you need to do is purchase any sized bag of our stoneground wholemeal flour and supply your details when you come to collect your purchase. There is no need to tell us what you hope to make yet, you can surprise us on the event day so get practising! Your chosen recipe must contain some wholemeal Mill Green flour and the item must be delivered to Mill Green Museum between 12-2pm on Sunday 12 May, ready for tasting and judging at 2.30pm. Flour can be purchased via this link https://www.millgreenmuseum.co.uk/millers-shop/ or directly from our museum shop at Bush Hall Lane, Hatfield, AL9 5PD.
